Definition:

Laughing my fucking ass (or arse) off. It’s the digital equivalent of snorting your drink out of your nose. You bash this into the keypad when a polite little chuckle won’t do the job and you are genuinely doubled over, struggling to breathe. When you’re after the LMFAO slang meaning, think of it as taking regular LMAO and turning the volume dial right up to eleven.

Where It Comes From:

This came straight out of early 90s PC gaming lobbies and chaotic dial-up chat rooms. People got sick of how lazy “LOL” felt, and even “LMAO” didn’t quite do justice to the moments where you were genuinely in tears at your keyboard. Shoving an f-bomb right in the middle gave it the proper punch. It jumped straight into mainstream pop culture during the late 2000s when that neon-clad duo named their entire band after it, blasting party anthems all over the radio.

How People Actually Use It:

You see it hammered into WhatsApp group chats, Discord voice calls, and TikTok comments whenever utter madness goes down. People throw it out when a mate tells a toe-curlingly awkward dating story, when someone accidentally sends a risky text to the family group chat, or when a chaotic pet video completely breaks their brain. When something is genuinely hysterical, people stretch out the letters into a massive “LMFAOOO” just so everyone knows they’re actually wheezing behind the glass.

  Translation: That is absolute gold and you are never living this down.

• “Watched Dave try to vault the fence and rip his trousers clean in half, lmfao.”

• “Spent twenty minutes tearing the house apart looking for my sunglasses while wearing them, lmfao.”

  Translation: Calling out my own ridiculous brain fade and having a good laugh at it.
