NOYFB (phrase / Internet & Text Slang)
(Also heard as: noyfb, Noyfb, N.O.Y.F.B.)
Definition:
None of your fucking business. No sugarcoating, no polite excuses. You throw this at someone when they’re sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong and need a firm reminder to back off. If you’re checking the NOYFB slang meaning, it literally translates to: “Mind your own life and leave me alone.”
Where It Comes From:
This cropped up back on old 90s bulletin boards and dial-up chat rooms. Strangers on the web would constantly pry into people’s private lives, asking for real names, home towns, or bank details. Rather than wasting time typing out a massive row with full curse words on a clunky keyboard, people just bashed out those five letters to shut the conversation down instantly. It never really went away.
How People Actually Use It:
You mostly catch it when things get heated in comment sections or group chats. Someone might drop it if an annoying relative asks why they aren’t married yet, or when a nosy follower demands to know how much money they make. If someone’s trying to stay slightly cleaner around family, they’ll pretend the ‘F’ stands for “freaking” or “bloody,” but everyone knows what they really meant.
Examples in the Wild:
-
“Why were you late getting back last night? NOYFB.”
Translation: Stop pestering me about my personal life.
-
“NOYFB why I walked out of that job, so don’t even ask.”
Translation: Why I quit is strictly between me and my boss.
-
“Some random bloke in my DMs asked for my salary, hit him with a NOYFB.”
Translation: I told a stranger to stop poking into my finances.
