Facts (noun / exclamation / modern slang)
(Also heard as: Straight facts, Big facts, No cap, pure facts)
Definition:
-
The absolute truth or an undeniable point.
-
A one-word reaction shouted or typed to agree 100% with what someone just said.
Pronunciation: /fækts/
Where It Comes From: It kicked off in early 2000s New York hip-hop culture, where rappers and battle MCs dropped “facts” at the end of bars to prove they weren’t spinning tales.
Thanks to Twitter, Twitch chats, and British grime and drill tracks in the late 2010s, it completely crossed the pond. UK group chats and school corridors grabbed it immediately. Instead of sitting around saying “I agree with your logical assessment,” people simply started firing back “facts” as the quickest way to back someone up.
How People Actually Use It: You drop it the second someone says something you agree with so much you don’t even need to add your own opinion.
If a mate goes on a rant about train tickets being stupidly expensive, or points out that Friday afternoons at work are completely pointless, you just hit them with a quick “facts.” It acts like a verbal high-five. You can also use it to back up a mate during an argument when they’re laying down the cold, hard truth.
Examples in the Wild:

Translation: “He is speaking the complete truth about what happened.”
-
“That pizza place has gone right downhill lately. — You’re right, facts!”
Translation: “I completely agree with your point; it’s undeniable.”
-
“Straight facts from him on the podcast, couldn’t have put it better myself.”
Translation: “He made entirely accurate, sensible points during the show.”
