Hoke is a slang term used to mean “joke,” “only messing,” “half-joking,” or “you’re overreacting.” It is commonly used to soften a comment, indicate that something was not meant seriously, or suggest that someone is making too much of a situation.

Example: “I was only winding you up.” “Hoke.”
Means: “It was just a joke.”

Example: “You’re acting like it’s the end of the world.” “Hoke.”
Means: “You’re overreacting.”
