Sloomy is a Northern English and Lowland Scots dialect word meaning drowsy, sleepy, or heavy with fatigue. It describes a state where someone is half-asleep, sluggish, or drifting towards sleep.
Example: “He sat by the peat fire, awfu’ sloomy and near sleepin’.”
Means: “He sat by the peat fire, very drowsy and almost asleep.”
Example: “The heat made us sloomy, an’ we napped in the hayfield.”
Means: “The heat made us sleepy, and we fell asleep in the field.”
