Gaslighting refers to a form of psychological manipulation where someone makes another person question their own reality, memory, or perceptions. The term is often used to describe behaviour that is intended to confuse, control, or undermine someone’s confidence and sense of reality.
Example: “He kept telling her she was overreacting, even though she wasn’t—classic gaslighting.”
Means: “He kept making her doubt her feelings and perceptions, a typical example of gaslighting.”
Example: “Stop gaslighting me; I know what I saw.”
Means: “Stop trying to make me doubt myself; I know what I saw.”
