Clout refers to someone’s level of influence or authority, whether in real life, politics, media, or social circles. It’s often used to describe people who have power or recognition, and those who try to associate with them in hopes of gaining attention or status themselves.

Example: “He’s only hanging out with her for clout.”
Means: “He’s spending time with her to boost his own status or influence.”

Example: “The MP lost a lot of clout after that scandal.”
Means: “The MP lost influence and political standing after the scandal.”
