Yeet (verb / exclamation / modern slang)
(Also heard as: Yeeted, Yeeting, Big yeet, Yote)
Definition: To chuck or launch something with pure force and zero regard for where it lands. People also just shout it out loud when throwing something or doing something bold with maximum energy.
Pronunciation: Y-ee-t
Where It Comes From: Blew up around 2014 from a viral Vine of a lad dancing in a school hallway shouting “Yeet!”, which quickly turned into a dance move. Not long after, another Vine dropped of a girl shouting “This bitch empty—YEET!” before hurling a drink can down a crowded corridor. That single clip took the word from a dance craze and turned it into the universal word for chucking rubbish across the room.
How People Actually Use It: Shouted the second you launch an empty coke can into a bin from across the kitchen, toss a dead phone onto the bed, or chuck a bad hand of cards across the table. Gamers use it constantly for getting blasted across a map by a grenade, and folks use it casually when getting rid of old clutter or ditching plans.
Examples in the Wild:
-
“The spider was on my sleeve so I just yeeted the whole jumper across the room.”
Translation: I panicked and threw my top with massive force.
-
“He tried to tackle me on the pitch and got yeeted into the advertising boards.”
Translation: He mistimed his challenge and went flying across the grass.
-
“Don’t keep that rubbish, just yeet it in the big skip outside.”
Translation: Toss that junk straight into the rubbish bin.
